Fluid Dynamics offers an excellent site search engine for no cost as freeware. The freeware version works exactly the same as the paid version, but includes the Fluid Dynamics lable on the results. For just $40.00, you can purchase a license to use the search engine without the Fluid Dynamics lable and link. It takes a bit of setting up, but anyone in your IT department should be able to handle the installation. We are using the licensed version of the Fluid Dynamics Search Engine on this site and highly recommend it.

Thunderstone | The Webinator Web Index & Retrieval System

Thunderstone offers The Webinator Web Index & Retrieval System, a free search engine that is also available for purchase in several configurations. The free version will index up to 10,000 pages on your site and will process up to 10,000 searches per day. They offer a free message board where you can get excellent help with the installation. If you're not a programmer or a server administrator, then skip this one. You have to install it on your server. The search results will include the Thunderstone logo.

PicoSearch.com | PicoSearch.com

PicoSearch.com offers a free website search plan which is backed by customer testimonials. Just enter your e-mail address and website url, add a couple additional details, and they will spider your site and give you some code to past into your pages. PicoSearch.com offers terrific customization options that are easy to implement, and the free reports are very useful. Their free plan will index up to 1,500 pages of your site, and supports multi-site searching so you can search your network of sites. For a fee, you can remove the ads they place on the search results. You can re-index your pages anytime you like.

FreeFind.com also offers a free website search feature, which they claim is used by more than 100,000 websites. Just enter your website address and e-mail address into a form, and they will send you login information. FreeFind.com also places ads on the free search results at your site. They offer plenty of customization options and reports that track visitors' searches. There is no fixed page limit, but there is a 32MB bandwidth limit. Your pages are re-indexed daily.

FusionBot offers a free website search called the "Free Package." The free package lets you add up to 250 pages of your site and re-indexes them monthly. You can request re-indexing one extra time per month if you like. They also offer Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum versions of their search.

Google | Google Free Web Search with Site Search

Google offers a free version of their search engine to use on your site. Just copy the free code, replace the words "YOUR DOMAIN NAME" with your domain name, and paste it into your pages where you want it to appear. Only files which are already indexed by Google will be found using the site search. I.e., the Google solution is just a modified Google search where only pages from your domain are included. Google does reserve the right to sell ads on all their free search results pages. Google Free Web Search has no reporting or re-indexing features.
