There are no major news or happenings to report regarding search engine business.  There is an interesting new article on the American Marketing Association website.  It is a guide to understanding search engine optimization written by C. J. Newton, and is in the Best Practices section.  You will have to register with the site to get access.  It's quick, easy, and free.

All has been calm on the search engine front for the past few days, unless you consider that the SEC is investigating AOL, and the FTC is digging deeper into VeriSign's marketing practices, mentioned here.

The big news this week is that Google results are finally showing up as the search results on AOL.  Winning on Google has been the most important win for generating website traffic for about a year now.  It just got a lot more important.

To review, Google now provides its search results to the following search engines: Google, AOL, Yahoo (after the directory search, where it says "Web Page Matches"), iWon, Netscape, Compuserve, and others.
