On Tuesday, September 10, 2001, Ask Jeeves bought Teoma Technologies.  Teoma was developed at Rudgers University, and is designed to rank websites based on subject-specific popularity.  Think of Google popularity, but slightly different.  Teoma considers websites linked to yours to be more important if they share content similarity.  They still count all links and give your site credit, but they give it extra popularity credit if the sites are about the same things as your site.

Teoma maintains two search engine databases, one database of sites indexed by their spider, and one database of sites submitted through their paid listing service.  Being listed on other major search engines and directories, and having links back to your site will lead to being spidered and listed by Teoma.  Through ineedhits.com, you can submit multiple urls to Ask Jeeves and Teoma.  Do not fear that your site will be removed from the free listing database if you pay for a listing.  The two databases are completely independent.
