AOL's search engine and the AOL directory are just copies of search engines and directories found elsewhere on the web. To get listed, go straight to the source. Get listed on the Open Directory (DMOZ) to get listed in the AOL directory. Soon the way to winning on AOL will be to win on Google, as AOL and Google have recently made an agreement whereby Google will provide the results to AOL searches.
By the way, AOL Time Warner owns Netscape, and therefore "owns" the Open Directory...
